Introduction : Moeka Hoshi
Shogun fans were torn at the news the show has been renewed for two more seasons. Many are eager to see Toranaga and Blackthorne’s war strategy play out after Season 1’s tease and climactic finale. However, this also meant that the story would move forward without Mariko, one of the show’s fan-favorite protagonists. In an interview with The Direct, actor Moeki Hoshi appeased apprehensions by hinting the show would explore more of the period’s continuing history. She also offered potential turns her character Fuji could take for Seasons 2 and 3.
George R.R. Martin recently shared his thoughts on FX’s Shogun”All I can say is just, as a personal fan of Shogun itself,
I’m really looking forward to know what kind of stories are told in Season 2 and Season 3,” she said. “However, I did pick up, just in my research, and you know, because Shogun does follow history and history is history–I’m not quite sure which battle it was in, but I have heard that there was a group of nuns who did take part in a battle. So, maybe [that]… But again, in Justin [Marks] and Rachel [Kondo] I trust. So, they will come up with something very interesting.” Showrunners Marks and Kondo previously confirmed Shogun was initially intended to follow James Clavell’s novel, which ended just like the show’s Season 1 finale.
Fuji’s Story Continues In Shogun Season 2
Hoshi teased how audiences would see a very different Fuji in Shogun Season 2. The character was initially fatalistic but was resolute on her new purpose when Season 1 ended. “I think that, as I mentioned, emotional growth throughout the series, but in Episode 1, she was almost sheltered in a way she didn’t know the world either,” she explained. “And I believe that by Episode 10, she’s kind of–she’s very grounded. She is a much more grounded person, and perhaps, like Mariko, she has been able to find her true strength by Episode 10.” Fuji’s continuing story was somewhat teased in that finale, where she revealed her plans to become a nun to Blackthorne (played by Cosmo Jarvis)
